“SAFETY IN A CONNECTING ATMOSPHERE”
Ineke Demmenie
Do you experience problems with intimacy and sexuality? Are there problems in your relationship? Do you feel unable to solve this together and do you consider seeking help for this? Or do you want to work on your sexual problem alone first? In my practice you find the opportunity to work on this in a safe and open environment. I am sexologist, couple- and family therapist. You can also consult for trauma therapy and psychological problems like anxiety, stress, abuse, problems with life events, insecurity about your identity, coping with ( chronic) grief and personality disorders. I refer to and work together with different (medical) sexologists, couple therapists, clinical psychologists- psychotherapists, pelvic physiotherapist, psychosocial therapists, and a psychiatrist. I’ve been working as both a sexologist and relationship- and familytherapist since 2000. It gives me enormous gratification to see an improvement in the sexual confidence and connection in the relationships of my clients.
At the end of last century, I decided to specialise as sexologist. In my work as a social psychiatric nurse (SPV/VO) in various mental health care institutions, I noticed that there was very little attention and hardly any treatment on offer for people with sexual problems. Quickly after, I continued to specialise in the field of systems therapy (= relationship- and family therapy), as I came into contact with more and more spouses in my line of work. Sexual problems manifest themselves mainly within relationships, and many sexual problems are actually more relationship problems. My strength lies in my open working style and nothing human is alien to me. I think it is important that clients feel safe with me and do everything I can to work in a familiar, connecting atmosphere. As a therapist, I am always in search of new methods and techniques which expand on my abilities as a therapist. They stimulate me to regard my work from different perspectives. I have done many training courses, such as MBT-F (Mentalization Based Therapy for Families), EFT (Emotional Focused Therapy) and Mindfulness. I am inspired by the visions of Ester Perel and David Schnarch.
